Tip #1: Network, network, network.

It is a fact of life, most people get their job through personal connections.

According to a study cited in The Tipping Point by Malcom Gladwell, 54% of people got their jobs through personal connections, 16% through job postings, and 20% through applying directly.

However that's not what's remarkable about this study.

Of the personal connections, a majority were weak connections rather than strong connections. This study suggests that you are more likely to find a job through a weak connection than a strong connection, which shows how important it is to meet as many people as possible, even if you don't get to know them really well.
